The Enemy's Tomb

He had decided it was time to teach his orphaned niece of the coming of the dragonkin. He would tell her of the plight they brought to their people and the call to war her aunt and uncle had to answer. He would hold off for a few more years before telling her that she, too, must answer this call when the time came. He told her many things about the war but he could not tell her everything. Some truths are too painful with which to burden anyone needlessly, let alone a child. Bringing her to the tomb of his enemy was his way of recompense. After all, he believed the child should, even unknowingly, see her mother.
